Who is the program suitable for?

This program is for you if you are Deaf/hard of hearing, a CODA, and have a passionate desire to work with acting techniques and theatre. In the program, we will use International Sign.

This is what you will learn

During the school year, you will learn:

  • To explore different methods and acting techniques
  • Stage work both with and without text
  • Text analysis
  • Practical work from idea to finished performance
  • Creating good interaction in a theater ensemble
  • Networking and collaboration with various actors, instructors and directors

One year at Ål folkehøgskole fully immersed in theatre and in dreams. Together with the classmates from various nations, we faced the challenge of looking deep within, across cultures. Yet love always swept differences away. I nurtured my inner flowers with inspiration from teachers, art, travel, and shared projects, bringing shows to life and emotions.I am grateful to have become an actor and an artist with multi-talents that can add me wings to fly further
It is a wonderful place to take deep breaths, surrounded by the richness of nature.
It was a year that deeply nourished my soul.

My time at the theatre course at the Ål folkehøyskole was great and a big experience. I have learned a lot about practical tools in acting, physical theatre, and movement, but what was more meaningful was the feeling of belonging in a creative and supportive group. While I was surrounded by passionate people who weren’t afraid to express themselves inspired me to grow both on stage and as a person. The teacher gave us freedom to do what we wanted to do and explore our creativity in different ways. One of the best moments for me was working on my monologue. It was a huge challenge for me, and I grew a lot from this experience. It’s an experience I’ll carry with me for life.

Ål is a place for anyone needing a break from the rush of everyday life a breathing space where you get the chance to meet yourself, discover your strengths, and grow as a person. Going there was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I grew both as a person and as an artist, and that journey was clearly reflected in the final projects, especially the monologue. My time in Ål gave me new energy and inspiration and memories that continue to stay with me.
